Marian Central High presents ‘South Pacific’ in Woodstock
Submitted by Marian Central Catholic High School
Come away to Bali Ha’i, your special island, for this year’s musical “South Pacific” at Marian Central Catholic High School, 1001 McHenry Ave., Woodstock.
During World War II, everyone is either running away from or running to something, according to “Cockeyed Optimist” nurse Nellie Forbush. A “hick” from Little Rock, Ark., she is swept away by suave French planter Emile de Becque. Feisty Islander Bloody Mary tries to provide for her daughter Liat and sells souvenirs to American GIs, including Lt. Joe Cable and her rival Luther Billis. While the sailors are intrigued by the mysteries of Bali Ha’i, all are trying to understand the challenges of war, while keeping their hopes high for peace.
Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II created this musical, adapted from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “Tales of South Pacific” by James A. Michener. Such memorable songs include “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair,” “Bali Ha’i,” and “Some Enchanted Evening.”
Performances will be at 7 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 22 and March 1, and Saturdays, Feb. 23 and March 2. The Sunday matinee will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 24.
Reserved tickets will go on sale in the school office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Call the school office at (815) 338-4220, ext. 100.
