Artist to speak on his woodcut works at Elgin Museum
Submitted by Elgin Public Museum
In conjunction with the current exhibit, “Informed by Nature: Reduction Woodcuts,” artist Peter Van Ael will be at the Elgin Public Museum on Friday, Nov. 15.
He will discuss his inspiration for “creating abstract and nonrepresentational works of art” as informed by nature.
He also will talk about the process of the reduction woodcut. As Van Ael describes it, “The reduction woodcut does not tolerate any detours or returns. Consequently, the reduction woodcut is always unique, fresh, direct, powerful and honest expression of the artist’s creative intent.”
Van Ael is the chair of Museum Studies Committee and coordinator of the Olson Gallery at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
The program will run from 7 to 8 p.m. Cost is $6 for the public or $4 for museum members.
The Elgin Public Museum of Natural History and Anthropology is at 225 Grand Blvd. in Lords Park on Elgin’s east side.
