Photo IDs are good idea at polls
I find it to be admirable of those volunteers who are helping voters without photo IDs obtain them.
For the most part, the majority of those lacking a photo ID are minorities, senior citizens, those individuals who have never obtained a driver’s license, not to mention a need for a passport.
What concerns me the most, is the recent full-court press being applied by some of our elected officials who appear to be determined to thwart this group of qualified voters from casting their vote this November, for fear of them helping to re-elect the present political party in office, as most likely they did in 2008.
Finding a solution to a problem is better than complaining about it. After all, I am required to show a photo ID when boarding an airplane, applying for a passport, getting a signature notarized and donating blood. A photo ID requirement to vote makes sense, although, legislation requiring a photo ID to vote should have surfaced on the floor of Congress in 2009, not in an election year.
If it had, we would not be having these suspicions of an ulterior motive today.
