Molina wins Kane District 1 Democratic primary

With all votes counted, Kane County District 1 incumbent Myrna Molina of Aurora has defeated Sylvia Leonberger, also of Aurora, for the Democratic nomination for the seat.

According to unofficial results from the Aurora Election Commission, Molina had 66.8 percent of the vote to Leonberger’s 33.2 percent.

Two-hundred fifty-three votes were cast.

It is the second time Molina has bested Leonberger, who represented the current District 1 from 2006 to 2010. Molina defeated her in 2010.

Molina, 33, is a medical administrator. Besides her county post, she serves on the Aurora Housing Authority. She cited public access to county board information as her top priority, in a Daily Herald candidate questionnaire.

Leonberger is a retired teacher.

No Republicans filed for the primary. New parties and independent candidates have until June 25 to file for the general election.
