Hoosier students to compete in 2012 geography bee

INDIANAPOLIS — Students from across Indiana will come to downtown Indianapolis later this month to test their knowledge of geography.

The state level competition of the annual National Geography Bee will be held March 30 at Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis. Each state winner will receive $100 and a DVD of “The Complete National Geographic.”

The Indiana winner will represent the state in the national competition May 22-24 at National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. A total of 54 students from across the United States will compete for a $25,000 college scholarship.

The final round of the national event will be moderated by Jeopardy host Alex Trebek.

The state contests are the second level of the annual event. The first level began last November with contests in nearly 12,000 U.S. schools.
