Burlington Central has record day at Top Times

The Burlington Central boys and girls track teams had some shining moments at Saturday’s Illinois Prep Top Times indoor meet in Bloomington.

The Rockets’ 3,200-meter relay team won the Class 2A boys championship in a time of 8:02.02. Team members were Matt O’Connor, Mike Gulik, Clint Kliem and Joe Gannon.

Gulik, Kliem, O’Connor and Ben Damisch then finished second in the 1,600 relay in a clocking of 3:28.2.

Gulik was second in the individual 800 meters, running a 1:57.4 and being nopped at the wire by a runner from Cahokia.

Kliem finished seventh in the 1,600 for BC in a time of 4:29.9.

On the girls’ side, Kayla Wolf won the 800 meters in 2:18.2, Katie Trupp was second in the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches) and seventh in the pole vault (11-0).

The Rockets’ girls also set two new school records as Alexa Tovsen was fourth in the 400 in a time of 1:01.20, and the 1,600 relay team ran a 4:15.01. Team members were Hannah Zipoy, Jane Corcetti, Tovsen and Wolf.
