Mundelein fire leaves home uninhabitable
Firefighters saved two dogs from a Mundelein house fire early Tuesday afternoon, but the family’s home was left uninhabitable.
No one was home when the fire broke out inside the house on the 26000 block of Long Meadow Drive, and crews were on the scene within five minutes of receiving a 911 call at 12:42 p.m.
The fire, which started in the rear of the two-story home, extended to the garage roof and to the outside wall of the second floor, officials said.
Countryside firefighters brought the blaze under control in less than 30 minutes from the time of the call with assistance from 10 neighboring departments.
The family, who has two daughters according to a neighbor, will be staying with relatives.
The neighbor said the dogs that were saved were in their cages when the fire started.
Fire officials estimated the damage at $100,000 to the contents and structure.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Tuesday night.
