Chicago man gets 50 years for raping woman, 89

CROWN POINT, Ind. — A Chicago man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for raping an 89-year-old Gary woman in her home during a burglary.

Twenty-four-year-old Secore King pleaded guilty to rape, strangulation and burglary in exchange for the dismissal of eight other felonies. He was sentenced Tuesday in Lake County Criminal Court.

The Times of Munster reports that King admitted that he saw the woman sweeping snow off her porch on Jan. 26, 2011, and pushed her inside her home, causing her to fall and hit the floor.

King admitted that he choked the woman until she was nearly unconscious and then raped her.

Prosecutors said King took some frozen dinners from the woman’s freezer and $7 from her wallet before fleeing the scene.
