Excellent experience getting driver's license
I've been watching with trepidation the letters from Daily Herald readers regarding difficulty in obtaining appointments for various services at Secretary of State offices in Illinois. My driver's license expires this fall.
Well, my experience was very fast, efficient and delightful. I simply went online, clicked on "driver's license," entered my ZIP code and the site immediately directed me to the two nearest facilities. I then took the next available appointment at the closer of the two and, voila, my date, time and location were confirmed. As soon as I exited the site, another confirmation message with ID number popped up on my text app.
Maybe some complainants are not tech savvy enough to navigate the website. I found it easy and clear to comprehend and respond. As far as I'm concerned, it's a good system to alleviate the lines.
By the way, my wife went through the in-person license renewal at Lake Zurich during the summer in less than 30 minutes. There were no long lines and the staff were all very friendly and efficient. I applaud the Secretary of State for an improved program. Citizens just need to show patience and chill out.
