One person injured in O’Hare crash

One person was injured when a taxi rolled over on the upper level roadway of Terminal 1 at O’Hare International Airport, Chicago Police officials said Thursday.

The 5:30 a.m. crash resulted in the roadway in front of Terminal 1 being blocked off for about 30 minutes, said Ofc. Robert Perez from the Chicago Police Media Affairs Department.

He said the Dodge minivan taxi hit a barrier near the terminal and flipped on its side.

Perez said a 47-year-old female passenger in the cab was injured and transported to a nearby hospital for nonlife threatening injuries.

He said the 53-year-old cabdriver was cited for the crash, but Perez did not have the actual charges available early Thursday.

Karen Pride of the Chicago Department of Aviation said Terminal 1 is used primarily by United Airlines, though added Nippon and Lufthansa airlines operate out of the location.

She said the accident did not have a major impact on travelers, and the roadway was cleared up in about 30 minutes.
