N. Ind. library to sell beer at fundraiser

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — In one for the books, a northern Indiana library will make a one-night exception to its no-alcohol policy and include a cash bar serving beer and wine during a trivia night fundraiser.

The South Bend Tribune reports the St. Joseph County Public Library board voted unanimously Monday to allow the April 27 fundraiser. Assistant library director Debra Futa says the library will hire licensed bartenders to do the serving.

The library expects to raise about $4,000 to $5,000 at the event.

The library hosted one previous event at which alcoholic drinks were served, a gala premier before a new branch opened. The county library is beginning to hold private fundraising events on a regular basis.
