Fiery semi crash closes eastbound I-70 in Indy
INDIANAPOLIS — State police say a fiery crash involving a semi-trailer has closed eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 on Indianapolis’ far east side.
Sgt. Ray Pool says troopers are awaiting an engineer’s inspection of the roadway and an overhead highway sign before reopening eastbound lanes. All lanes of I-70 were initially closed east of Post Road following the 3 a.m. EDT Friday crash, but westbound lanes have reopened.
Police say 51-year-old Marcus Moore of St. Louis told officers one of his semi’s tire’s blew out, causing him to swerve off the road and hit a guard rail before the semi crashed into a highway overhang sign and burst into flames. Moore was hospitalized in serious condition.
WISH-TV reports (http://bit.ly/wDtsUa ) the truck was carrying 3,500 pounds of highly flammable resin.
