Bad example of double-dipping

Sadly, the mayor of Elmhurst, Pete Decianni, is running for the DuPage County Board while stating his intention to continue to hold the office of mayor if he wins.

There are many concerns about this but I wish to address Pete’s pension problems. I believe he has signed up for a full pension based on his mayor’s job. No other Elmhurst mayor has done this.

If he were elected to the county board he would be eligible for another pension, paid for by taxpayers. Even if he takes the money and gives it away it is still money paid out of the pension system.

Double dipping such as this makes people question the pension system. This is to the disadvantage of the many municipal employees who have earned their single pension with dedicated work and belief in the promise of their pensions.
