Ultimate Gymnastic boys prepare for state meet

Ultimate Gymnastics’ boys team came together for the St. Valentine’s Day Classic Meet hosted by the Gymnastics Spot at the Lake County Fairgrounds. The boys competed with enthusiasm and brought home team awards to prove it. The level 6s and 7s both received first-place team awards and the combined levels 8-10 took the second place team award.

The level 9 leaders were Tyler Ball and Jesse Lee placing first and second in the 11-12 year age group. Neel Brahme, Tyler Stermitz and Andrew Guifarro placed 1-2-3 in the 14-15 age group.

Gavin Glickley at level 7 secured first all-around while Alex Kern took second place for level 8.

Additional strong performances came from Corey Whelan on level 4, 8-9 age group, taking second on floor, third on pommels, first on vault and fourth overall while teammate Owen Kams took third on pommels.

Level 5 gymnast Kyle Mayotte placed second on rings and third on parallel bars. His brother Corey Mayotte on level 6 took third on pommels and first on vault for the 7-9 age group. Also level 6 for the 10-11 age group included solid routines from Alex Cretor placing second on pommels, parallel bars and high bar; Jordy Mazza taking first place on floor and vault; Max Nevel taking third on rings; and Andy Taylor with third on floor.

The boys work hard as they prepare for the last months of the competition season.

“The boys continue to improve and we are looking forward to strong competitions in the next few meets,” coach Michael Headley said.

The boys have two more meets before they compete at the state meet that will be held at the Lake County Fairgrounds this year.
