Monroe County Indiana building to add solar panels

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A Monroe County building is going green with new solar panels.

The Herald-Times reports the North Showers county government building in Bloomington will add 220 solar panels by April. The addition comes thanks to a grant from the Office of Energy Development.

The grant of more than $278,000 allowed the county to purchase the solar panels and partially finance repairs to the roof.

The system will feed energy directly into the building. It’s expected to reduce energy costs by 10 percent.

The solar panel project was one of just four proposals selected for the grant out of nearly 80 applicants statewide. The project began at the end of December and will be officially announced on April 21, which is the day before Earth Day.
