Zombie author shares writing tips with Mundelein students

Submitted by Ron Girard/District 120

Mundelein High School teacher and author, John Stowers, signed books and spoke about his writing experience with a group of interested students recently. Stowers has penned three novels in a series about zombies. The titles are “Planet of the Dead,” “Planet of the Dead: Survivors” and “Planet of the Dead: Showdown.” He explained his ideas to the students along with recounting the process involved in becoming a published author.

Stowers told the audience that he had read a lot of zombie novels that weren’t too good and he felt that he could do better. That prompted him to write his own work. After he had written about 75,000 words he began pursuing publishers and was fortunate to land one early on in the search. The first book was launched shortly before Halloween, that being the most popular time of the year for sales of zombie-related books. The first and second novels are on sale now and the third is set to come out soon. MHS senior Erica Wagner did the cover illustrations for the second and third novels.
