Edgewood Drive rebuild to start soon in Algonquin
Edgewood Drive in Algonquin will be going through a major facelift in the next 12 months.
The reconstruction project includes widening the one-mile stretch of road between Hanson Road and Route 31, plus adding curbs, gutters and storm sewers, doing grade adjustments and more, public works project manager Shawn Hurtig said. The project will be managed by the village and executed by Copenhaver Construction of Gilberts.
The Illinois Department of Transportation, which considers that stretch of Edgewood Drive an arterial road, will fund the majority of the $3 million or so project, while the village will pay about 20 to 30 percent, Hurtig said. A final cost analysis will be done next week, he said.
Grant money will be used to build a multiuse bike path on the north side of Edgewood Drive that will connect to the Hanson Road bike path, he said.
Construction could begin as early as Monday, April 9, and is expected to last through April 2013, Hurtig said. “We are significantly changing the profile of the road,” he said. Village staff will meet with the contractor next week to talk about road closures, whether partial or complete, during different phases of the construction, he added.
Edgewood Drive’s reconstruction is one of two such major projects planned in Algonquin this year, Hurtig said.
The second will affect the Indian Grove subdivision, where streets will be rebuilt, and curbs, gutters and storm sewers will be added, he said.
The Indian Grove project, which will be entirely funded by the village, hasn’t gone out to bid yet, Hurtig said. Construction is expected to start in May and be completed by Dec. 1, he said.
