Restore adds summer hours
Submitted by ReStore
Through Sept. 29, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley ReStore, 800 N. State St. in Elgin, will be open Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. ReStore’s hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
“We like to offer our customers the opportunity to shop an additional weekend day. Many people may have projects going on throughout the summer and our being open an additional weekend day gives people a chance to stop by ReStore first for their home improvement needs,” said Shane Spooner, operations manager.
Also on Sundays at ReStore is the Elgin Farmers Market. Anthony Pedote, the market’s operator, made the decision to run the farmers market on Sunday in order to give people another day to shop for fresh locally grown produce. The market also has vendors that sell breads, pies, salsa and marinara, spices and jewelry.
“There are many markets on Saturdays as well as during the week, but we thought we would try to offer the option of a Sunday afternoon market,” Pedote said. “Come to ReStore and shop not only for home improvement items, but you also get the added benefit of picking up fresh produce and other amazing items through the Elgin farmers market.”

ReStore, Elgin is a 40,000-square-foot retail center that accepts donations of new and gently used home improvement and building materials from individuals, retailers, manufacturers, distributors and contractors. The items are sold to the public at greatly reduced prices and the funds generated support the home construction program of Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley. Since opening in April 2006, ReStore has raised enough funds to construct 33 homes and has diverted over 4,900 tons of materials from landfills. ReStore also is an electronic recycling collection site and has collected over 500,000 pounds of electronics since May 2011.
