Tickets for reserved seating are $25, $20 for senior citizens, and $14 for students.
The “Blueprint” concerts feature several annual events that highlight the talent that helps make the EYSO exceptional. In addition to the concert repertoire, the concerts will feature:
Jim Stombres, band director at St. Charles North High School, will receive the 2013 EYSO Music Educator of the Year. He will be present and recognized at all three concerts.
Each concert will feature a performance by the 2013 Concerto Competition Winners — the winners are listed below under the concert at which they will be performing.
“Blueprint” traces the path music takes from composition to performance, via the blueprint of a musical score. Composers, inventors, playwrights, and architects depend on pen and paper to communicate their ideas, so someone else can realize them. Comparing a musical score with play scripts and architectural drawings reveals the difficulties in conveying complex ideas with words and abstract symbols.
The 2 p.m. concert will feature the Sinfonia and the Prelude Orchestra. Hoffman Estates flutist Leilah Petit, the Sinfonia Concerto winner, will perform the first movement of Quantz’s Concerto in G Major. Sinfonia will be playing a world premiere of a new piece by composer Joe Kimmel.
The 4:30 p.m. concert will feature Philharmonia and the Brass Choir. Wheaton violist Christina D’Antonio, Philharmonia Concerto co-winner, will perform Hindemith’s “Trauermusik.” Philharmonia will be performing “Prism” by Wayne Oquin, as well as the “Russian Easter Festival Overture” by Rimsky-Korsakov. The overture features Paschal hymns as building blocks. The Rev. Wilbur Ellsworth of Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church in Warrenville, will be a guest chanter at the concert and sing a few of these hymns.
The 7:30 p.m. concert will feature the Youth Symphony. Naperville violinist Katie Gallagher, Youth Symphony Concerto winner, will perform the first movement of Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto. The Youth Symphony also will perform a selection from Symphony No. 2 by Mahler.
