Photos focus of ‘Exposed’ exhibit at Side Street Studio Arts in Elgin

Side Street Studio Arts, 15 Ziegler Court , Elgin will hold the artist reception for “Exposed,” another in its series of pop-up exhibitions, featuring photography this Saturday, Aug. 10 from 6-10 p.m.

“Exposed” features the work of local photographer Steven Sturgill with additional works by Erika Cespedes, Ayden Johnson, Angie McMonigal, and Luis Reyes. The artist reception also will include live musical performances by Scott Christopher, Copper Harbor, Mere Fragments and more. The event is free and open to the public, with a $5 suggested donation requested.

“Photography, more and more, is a media that many of us can relate to and participate in. It is in the different points of view expressed by these photographers, that we find excitement and vision,” said director Tanner Melvin.

Side Street Studio Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded earlier this year by Elgin residents Melvin and Erin Rehberg as an outlet for the Elgin arts scene in an effort to provide an accessible space encouraging all aspects of the artistic process from creation to curation. Hours are: noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Friday; 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, or by appointment.
