Police Efforts for St. Patrick's Day Campaign

Starting Monday, March 12, and going through Tuesday, March 20, the Arlington Heights Police Department will be conducting traffic enforcement activities relating to “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” as part of the Illinois Department of Transportation's (IDOT) St. Patrick's Day Campaign.

The enforcement efforts are part of the Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Grant awarded to the Village by IDOT's Division of Traffic Safety. The purpose of the grant is to reduce personal injury and fatal traffic accidents through increased traffic enforcement efforts. The grant supplements current law enforcement activities relating to traffic safety over a one-year period for various different enforcement campaigns designated by IDOT. The campaigns coincide with selected holiday periods in which there is a documented increase of traffic-related crashes and injuries. The campaigns rotate the themes of “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”

Enforcement activities will include numerous “Roving Saturation Patrols”, which will be conducted at various locations and times throughout the Village. Additionally, two “Roadside Safety Checks” will be conducted during the campaign. The first will take place on Friday, March 16, 2012 on Dundee Road near Route 53. The second will be a joint effort with the Elk Grove Police Department on Saturday, March 17, 2012 and will take place on Arlington Heights Road near Interstate 90. All activities will occur after 11 p.m.

Efforts will include identifying and citing motorists who choose to drive while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, without using safety belts, and who commit other traffic offenses including but not limited to equipment, registration, driver's license, and insurance violations.
