Gerson has no place to criticize Obama

History suggests that it is too much to expect introspection or accountability for such a neocon satrap as Michael Gerson, who in his most celebrated incarnation was an apologist for the rampant war crimes of Bush/Cheney.

However, for a man complicit in those crimes to suggest that President Obama is lacking in leadership for failing to slavishly adhere to the same misguided impulses for empire that has resulted in the destruction and maiming of thousands of American soldiers and Afghan civilians is as reprehensible as anything conceived of by the morality of man.

Obama would establish himself as a leader and honor our country by channeling the impulses he exhibited as a candidate and securing our exit from Afghanistan as soon as possible. To indefinitely perpetuate our presence there, especially after the killing of Bin Laden, is to defile the memory of the fallen.

Ensuring our soldiers are home safe and able to use working limbs to embrace their children is a better means of honoring them than a flag-draped coffin.

Bring our soldiers home and begin the necessary processes of accountability and healing. A good start would be finally acknowledging the war crimes of Bush and prosecuting him accordingly. Gerson’s knowledge here would be a more valuable contribution than the weekly bilge he produces.
