Feds aiding probe into shooting of NW Ind. girls

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — Authorities say a federal gang task force is helping investigate a shooting in which two girls were badly wounded while inside a northwestern Indiana home.
The 10- and 11-year-old cousins are being treated at Chicago hospitals for the wounds they suffered Tuesday night.
East Chicago Police Chief Mark Becker says the girls were in the home’s living room when a resident heard a vehicle stop outside, followed by multiple gunshots. The Post-Tribune of Merrillville reports that officials declined to describe the girls’ injuries or comment on a possible motive for the shooting.
Becker says it appears the shooter was standing on the sidewalk when shots were fired at the house.
