Chicago reading program features story collection

The Chicago Public Library has chosen its next book for the city’s “One Book, One Chicago” program. It is the short story collection “Gold Boy, Emerald Girl” by Yiyun Li.

The program encourages Chicagoans to all read the same book at the same time. The Chicago Public Library and other groups will host art exhibits, lectures and discussions in April to celebrate the book.

The nine short stories in “Gold Boy, Emerald Girl” are all set in China between the 1970s and the present.

The author received a MacArthur Foundation genius grant in 2010. She is a native of China who moved to the United States in 1996 at the age of 23.
