Kids can join Great Backyard Bird Count

Citizens for Conservation, Prairie Woods Audubon Society and Crabtree Nature Center will present the “Great Backyard Bird Count,” 1-3 p.m. Feb. 18, at the Crabtree Nature Center, 3 Stover Road, Barrington.

Be part of this annual event that connects bird-watchers of all ages as they create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are all across the continent.

The class is open to children ages 4 and older. Caregivers are required to attend.

Watch a video about birds, hike a trail while counting birds, head back to the nature center to compile our data. Warm up with hot chocolate, make a bird-friendly craft and receive Audubon Adventures.

Be sure to dress for the weather and bring your binoculars.

CFC members attend free. Nonmembers pay $5 for first child and $1 for each additional child. Registration forms are due by Feb. 11. Forms are at citizensforconservation.org/youth-education/. Make checks payable to Citizens for Conservation. Call CFC at (847) 382-7283 or email youth-ed@citizensforconservation.org with questions.
