DePaul closing during Chicago global summits

DePaul University plans to close its downtown Chicago campus during the upcoming NATO and G-8 summits.

School officials said in a statement on the university’s website that the closures are necessary because of traffic congestion and anticipated disruptions. The campus will be closed for four days, from Friday May 18 to Monday, May 21. It will reopen Tuesday, May 22.

The university says facilities will be available at its Lincoln Park campus on the city’s North Side. Some downtown classes may be relocated because there will be no access to downtown offices or classrooms.

Protesters have applied for a permit to hold a massive march on May 19 from the Daley Center to McCormick Place. That’s where world leaders will be meeting.
