Gala benefits Arlington Heights religious order

The Sisters of the Living Word are preparing for their 24th annual Mardi Gras Magic fundraiser Friday, Feb. 17.

More than two-thirds of the order’s 68 sisters are technically retired or semiretired. Nonetheless, most all of them are actively engaged in some form of ministry — whether working with AIDS patients, promoting peace, counseling teenage mothers, feeding the hungry, or helping the homeless.

The evening gala includes a Creole-inspired dinner, drinks, a silent auction and — believe it or not — a Mardi Gras parade.

The sisters will give the Rev. Daniel J, Brady, retired priest at Our Lady of the Wayside parish in Arlington Heights, the Partners in Mission Award. The sisters’ good works are outlined at www.slw.org.

Tickets are $75 each for the event, which takes place at Cotillion Banquets, 360 S. Creekside Drive, Palatine. RSVPs are needed. Contact Robin Shorden at (847) 577-5972 for more information.
