South Elgin's Smith 13 short of 2,000
South Elgin senior Becca Smith closed to within 13 points of 2,000 for her career Thursday night when she dropped 27 points on Batavia in the Storm's 68-46 Upstate Eight crossover girls basketball win in Batavia.
Smith can become only the third player in Fox Valley history to score 2,000 points next Wednesday night when the Storm meets either Elgin or Larkin in the semifinals of the Class 4A South Elgin regional.
Savanah Uveges added 15 points for the Storm (17-10) in Thursday's win.
East Aurora 37, Elgin 30: Head coach Dr. Nick Bumbales loved what he saw defensively out of the Maroons (1-25), but Elgin couldn't get anything going offensively in a Upstate Eight crossover loss. Briana Hamilton led Elgin with 17 points. After giving up just 3 points in the first quarter, Elgin was outscored 14-2 in the second quarter.
Lake Park 62, Larkin 48: The Lancers stormed out of the gate with a 20-point first quarter and never looked back, handing the Royals (4-22) an Upstate Eight crossover loss. Larkin's brights spots were Abigail Alverez with 16 points and Victoria Patterson, who added 10.
