Big East honors for DePaul’s Melvin

ORLANDO — After being named to the Old Spice Classic All-Tournament Team Sunday night, DePaul sophomore forward Cleveland Melvin was selected Monday for the Big East Weekly Honor Roll.

Melvin averaged a team-best 21.0 points per game in DePaul’s three games while going a perfect 15-for-15 from the free throw line. He also averaged 6.3 rebounds while blocking four shots and recording three steals.

Melvin was the youngest player on the weekly honor roll that also featured three seniors and a junior. He was joined by Georgetown’s Jason Clark, Pittsburgh’s Tray Woodall, Herb Pope from Seton Hall and Kevin Jones from West Virginia. Kris Joseph of Syracuse was the league’s Player of the Week and Connecticut’s Andre Drummond was the Rookie of the Week.

DePaul finished the Old Spice Classic with a 2-1 record that included wins over Texas Tech and Arizona State. The Blue Demons opened the tournament with an 86-85 loss to Minnesota on Thursday.
