Man convicted of killing 10-year-old sentenced

One of the men convicted last month in the 2008 shooting death of a 10-year-old Chicago girl has been sentenced to 60 years in prison.

Antoine Lacy and his co-defendants, 23-year-old Luis Pena and 22-year-old Raymond Jones, were convicted last month by three separate juries for the slaying of Nequiel Fowler. The girl was shot to death as she helped her 5-year-old blind sister walk through an alley on Chicago’s Southeast Side.

The 29-year-old Lacy, an admitted gang member, bowed his head when Nequiel’s mother and grandmother tearfully recalled the girl.

In handing down the sentence, Cook County Circuit Judge Kenneth Wadas, pointing to Lacy’s lengthy criminal record, said there are no signs he can be rehabilitated.

Pena, whom prosecutors identified as the gunman, and Jones are awaiting sentencing.
