Lombard approves zoning for cell tower at wastewater plant

AT&T has permission to install a 100-foot tall cellphone tower at the Glenbard Wastewater Authority plant after the Lombard Village Board this week approved zoning variations for the tower.

The plant, on Bemis Road east of Route 53, is in an area zoned for conservation or recreation. Zoning variations were required to allow a communications tower in a conservation/recreation area and for the tower’s height, distance from property lines, barbed wire and chain-link fencing, and lack of full landscape screening.

Lombard’s zoning approval follows Glen Ellyn’s approval of a license agreement with AT&T for use of the southwest corner of the wastewater authority’s property. The plant treats wastewater for both towns.
