Rolling Meadows fire destroys garage

A firefighter and a woman suffered minor injuries during a Rolling Meadows fire Thursday morning, officials said.

The fire started in a detached garage in the 2000 block of Martin Lane just before 11 a.m., and heat from the blaze damaged two neighboring houses, a second garage and two cars in the driveway, fire officials said.

Four people were inside the home when the fire broke out, but the flames never reached the house, said Rolling Meadows Batallion Chief Pete Till.

When firefighters arrived, the garage was engulfed by flames, officials said.

“The whole thing pretty much collapsed by the end of the fire,” Till said.

A motorcycle inside the garage was destroyed in the fire.

Fire officials estimated the damage at $55,000 to the structure and $10,000 to its contents, Till said. The cause is undetermined.

It took firefighters from Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights, Palatine and the Palatine Rural departments about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control, officials said.

The injured firefighters was treated at an area hospital and released Thursday, Till said. The woman was treated at the scene and released.
