Inmate requests special meals
A woman accused of murdering an infant in Waukegan is requesting special medication and meals after she was diagnosed as being reactive hypoglycemic by a doctor. Through her defense attorney Jed Stone of Waukegan, Sarah Gumm, 34, of Waukegan, asked that diabetic meals be prepared for her while she is incarcerated in Lake County jail, and that medication to help her deal with her affliction be prescribed to her by jail doctors. Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Eric Kalata said in court Wednesday he had not heard about Gumm’s medical condition prior to her court appearance, and wants to review her medical records before agreeing to the stipulation during a second hearing set for Friday. Gumm is held on $3 million in bond for killing 3-month-old Rylan Koopmeiners of Kenosha. Authorities said Gumm used extreme force to fracture the infant’s skull while baby-sitting on July 27.
