South Elgin woman ticketed in Elgin crash

A 78-year-old South Elgin driver has been cited for her role in a Thursday morning crash that sent her and the driver and passenger in the other car to the hospital, police said.

At around 11 a.m., Eleshwa D. Barm of the 900 block of Sunrise Drive, was heading south on McLean Boulevard, when three independent witnesses reported seeing her run the red light at Weld Road in her 1995 Toyota Camry, police said.

Her car hit a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix that contained two men — a 22-year-old driver and his 53-year-old passenger, police said.

All three sustained minor injuries; police blocked the intersection for about 30 minutes, Elgin Police Lt. Glenn Theriault said.

Barm was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital, while the men were recovering at Sherman Hospital. Barm also written up for disobeying a traffic control device.

“As always, we urge drivers to be particularly cautious when traveling through intersections — particularly this intersection given the pending construction that will be happening here over the next few years,” Theriault said.
