Lincolnshire to offer citizen police academy
The Lincolnshire Police Department will host its inaugural Citizens Police Academy beginning March 6.
The program will run through May 8.
The 10-week program is designed to provide citizens in the community with insight into the functions of the Lincolnshire Police Department and allow them to learn firsthand the responsibilities of law enforcement personnel.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
The objective of the academy is to provide an educational program that will foster a positive relationship, increase communication, and create a better understanding between the citizens of Lincolnshire and their police department.
Program topics will provide an overview of the various aspects of police work.
Some of the topics that will be covered include traffic enforcement, use of force, and crime scene investigation. In some classes, citizens will have an opportunity to take a hands-on approach to learning and participate in practical exercises.
The free program is open to residents and business owners in the village.
Participants must be at least 21 years old and willing to commit to attend one 2½-hour class each week for 10 weeks.
An application can be obtained at the police department during regular business hours or online at village.lincolnshire.il.us.For additional information, call academy coordinators Sgt. Jamie Watson or officer Thomas Branick at (847) 883-9900.
