Freight train derails west of Chicago

A freight train derailed west of Chicago on Friday morning, disrupting commuter train service but causing no injuries.

Canadian Pacific Railway spokesman Ed Greenberg says seven of the train’s 77 cars derailed. He says it’s too early to know the cause. Greenberg says two of the cars tipped over, including one carrying paper. He says none of the derailed cars contained hazardous materials and there was no risk to the public.

The Metra commuter service says the train was blocking two of its three tracks near Grand and Cicero avenues, causing delays of up to 20 minutes. Metra says none of its trains are involved in the derailment.
