Mundelein making wrong ‘improvements’
I have to totally agree with the recent letter “Mundelein needs better priorities” in the Fence Post by Gregory Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs talks about how Mundelein’s village trustees are wasting village taxpayers money on trying to “improve” the village, and how it’s being done the wrong way.
It’s true that if Mundelein wants to improve itself and become a more pleasant village for people to come to, we don’t need to have new flower pots and fancy lamp posts. What we need to improve and spend our money on is first fixing our roads.
I have lived in Mundelein for seven years now and every time I drive down Hawley, which by the way is considered a main street for our village, I see how much that street is in need of repair.
Another point Mr. Jacobs makes is to bring more businesses into the area. We have a lot of empty strip malls sitting around Mundelein right now; from the corner of Hawley & Rt. 45 to the corner of Rts. 45 & 60 where the Jewel is, to the newest vacant shops of the Ivanhoe Shoppes on route 60. To get people to come to our village, we have to show them some places to shop and eat, not view the lovely arrangement of flowers in the new pot holders hanging from the new streetlight posts.
Finally, I hope that all the money going into the new Village Hall will be worth it. I’m hoping that it helps improve the entire village and not just the village government. We all really want Mundelein to be able to compete with the other surrounding villages as a place people want to go, so don’t waste our money on the fluff; do some real improvements.
