Carmel hosts annual Street Scenes fundraiser

Prepare to take a stroll down memory lane as Carmel Catholic High School’s Street Scenes revisits Carmel’s 50 Years.

The 38th annual event takes place on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10 and 11. The fundraiser is open to the general public (21 and older) at 6:30 p.m. on both evenings.

Street Scenes has earned a reputation as the biggest theme party of the season in Lake County and the most significant community builder.

For one weekend per year, the entire school is transformed into a party town atmosphere with more than 20 live bands, a huge casino, food and drink from popular area restaurants, comedy clubs and the famous Student Show in the Carmel auditorium. The student show is professionally produced and choreographed, presenting four shows per night.

The gymnasium is also transformed into an exciting Las Vegas-style casino with blackjack, poker, craps, roulette, wheel of fortune and many other popular games. This year, the casino opens at 8 p.m. and is traditionally one of the hottest spots during Street Scenes weekend.

“We are proud to say Street Scenes has been a Lake County tradition for the past 37 years,” Carmel President Judith Mucheck said. “Hundreds of generous volunteers donate their time to a cause that has been a true community builder from Wisconsin to Indiana. This 38th year is no exception, and we’re thrilled to continue the tradition.”

Tickets cost $20 in advance (available by calling (847) 566-3000) and $25 at the door. Proceeds support Carmel Catholic educational programs. No smoking is allowed in the buildings at Carmel.

Lake and McHenry County sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders, along with Carmel students, are invited to Street Scenes Student Night from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11. Admission is $5 in advance, $6 at the door.

Students will be able to enjoy several of the shows — including the Student Show — along with food and games at reduced prices.

The Street Scenes annual gala takes the collective effort of more than 1,000 adult and student volunteers to ensure success. For Carmel Catholic students, their major focus is to make the Ad Drive a success. This years’ Directory of Advertisers can be accessed at: http://carmelhs.org/streetscenesads/.

Carmel Catholic parents and other adult friends lend their support to Street Scenes as entertainers, artists, bartenders, stage crews, electricians, short-order cooks, ticket sellers, printers, seamstresses, waiters and waitresses, set up and take down crews, and in many other ways, as well.
