Palatine approves three-year contract for firefighters

The Palatine village council this week approved a three-year contract with the village’s firefighters union retroactive to Jan. 1.

Firefighters will receive salary raises of 1 and 2 percent in the first two years of the deal. In 2014, they’ll receive a midpoint adjustment increasing wages to the median salary of eight area comparable fire departments.

Other contract highlights include changes to the lieutenant promotional process, a residency requirement update and clarification of administrative matters. Palatine officials said they were pleased no outside labor attorneys were needed in the negotiations.
