4 dead after wrong-way crash on I-80

HAZEL CREST — Four people are dead after a wrong-way driver caused a fiery head-on collision on Interstate 80 in Hazel Crest.

Authorities say three of the four people killed early Monday were in a vehicle traveling east in the westbound lanes of I-80. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle is among the dead, as is the driver of the second vehicle.

Illinois State Police officials say the crash happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. in Hazel Crest, about 18 miles south of Chicago.

It isn't clear how long the vehicle was traveling the wrong way on the highway.
