Chicago Wolves drop tough one to IceHogs

ROCKFORD — The Chicago Wolves dropped a tough 2-1 verdict to the Rockford IceHogs 2-1 in an Illinois Lottery Cup match Friday night at the MetroCentre.

Nolan Baumgartner scored the only goal for the Wolves (26-18-1-3) at 12:45 of the first period on assists from Anton Rodin and Steve Reinprecht.

The IceHogs (21-23-1-4) had opened up the scoring at 3:19 of the first period when Ben Smith rebounded a shot by Peter LeBlanc and beat goalie Eddie Lack, who made 27 saves.

The IceHogs’ Brian Fahey scored what proved to be the game-winner on a power play at 1:26 of the second period.

Icehogs goalie Alexander Salak (4-6-0) finished with 28 saves.

The Wolves and IceHogs face off again today at 7 p.m. at the MetroCentre.
