Union calls new 3-day strike at Frankfurt airport

FRANKFURT, Germany — A union is calling on ground staff at Frankfurt airport to stage a new three-day strike starting Sunday after talks aimed at defusing a bitter pay dispute collapsed.

The GdF union halted its previous strike, which caused hundreds of flight cancelations over three days at Europe’s third-busiest airport, on Wednesday to clear the way for talks with airport operator Fraport AG.

But talks collapsed Friday night. GdF accused Fraport of making an “absolutely unacceptable” offer.

On Saturday, it called workers out on a new strike from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Thursday.

Fraport has sharply criticized GdF demands for double-digit wage increases for around 200 workers. The union says it just wants Frankfurt workers’ salaries brought into line with what other airports pay.
