Libertyville troupe to stage ‘Love Letters’
Liberty Town Productions presents a romantic Valentine’s Day Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Mickey Finn’s Amber Room, 412 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.
The 3-year-old not-for-profit entertainment enterprise is presenting the A.R. Gurney comedy-drama “Love Letters,” starring Maggie Bieritz of Arlington Heights and Libertyville’s Scott Metzger.
The celebration begins at 6:30 p.m. with a cash bar cocktail hour featuring Libertyville singer Dawn Christine Crowther, with Laurel Ann Kaiser of Hawthorn Woods on piano. An hors d’oeuvres buffet is included in the $22 price. The play follows at 7:30 p.m.
“‘Love Letters’ is a touching dramedy tracing the relationship of a man and a woman via the letters they wrote to one another — from their first meeting in second grade through the ups and downs of their lives,” said Metzger, who championed this production with Liberty Town after seeing it done regularly on Valentine’s Day during his career as a professional actor in Los Angeles.
“I like it because it’s real. It’s become a Valentine’s Day standard of sorts because it provides audiences intimate insight into this deep relationship and, I hope, brings them to appreciate the love in their life more fully because of it.”
Liberty Town’s decision to create the Valentine’s Day show came about quickly when Bieritz, Crowther and Kaiser, veterans of the company’s showcase and musicals, agreed to perform.
“The enthusiasm of Kristen Christensen and Brian Grano at Mickey Finn’s sealed the deal,” said Liberty Town’s Executive Director Barry Reszel.
Feb. 14 falls on a Tuesday this year, Reszel noted.
“But we want to truly celebrate Valentine’s Day by sharing this evening of fabulous entertainment and great food, all wrapped up in a romantic package with the people in the community we love,” he said.
Seating is limited for the one-night-only celebration. Producers recommend purchasing tickets from the “box office” page at www.libertytownproductions.com or in person at Mickey Finn’s.
Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door for $25 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
