Oak Park expands Frank Lloyd Wright district

The village of Oak Park outside Chicago has expanded the boundaries of its Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District.

The Chicago Tribune reports the village has added 444 homes to the district. The total number of homes in the district is now at just more than 17,000 and Oak Park Urban Planner Doug Kaarre says 89 percent of those homes are historically relevant. Efforts to update the district’s boundaries started in 2005 to bring the area in line with current historic district standards.

Homes within district boundaries must be reviewed by an historic preservation commission before owners can receive building permits.
