Chicago launches effort for new cultural plan
For the first time in more than 25 years the city of Chicago is developing a new cultural plan.
The city’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events is asking for the public’s input on its 2012 Chicago Cultural Plan. The last plan was developed in 1986 and included renovating Navy Pier, offering incentives for movie projects and redeveloping Chicago’s theater district.
Chicagoans can offer their opinions and ideas for the plan at a series of town hall meetings, online and through social media. The final plan is to be unveiled in the fall. Funding comes from the Chicago Community Trust and a grant from the state’s Illinois Arts Council.
The city says its creative economy generates $2 billion a year and employs 150,000 people.
