Paratransit lawsuit settled
The Regional Transportation Authority, Chicago Transit Authority and Pace announced Friday they had settled a lawsuit over paratransit, the service for disabled riders. The lawsuit stemmed from paratransit passenger claims that the service they received wasn’t equal to trips on conventional buses and trains. Without admitting wrongdoing, the agencies will pay settlements to 15 plaintiffs ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 each. The agencies also must provide up to 150,000 free one-way trip vouchers for certified paratransit riders who apply by March 30. Paratransit fares are $3 a one-way trip. The lawsuit was filed in November 2007.
