Auxiliary donates to Advocate Condell Medical Center

Submitted by Sarah Toomey

The Auxiliary of Advocate Condell Medical Center presented a check for $160,893 to hospital officials in December.

The donation represents the proceeds from various Auxiliary fundraisers in 2011. The money was raised through lobby sales, a Spring Brunch, a golf outing and an annual gala, among other events. The bulk of the funds — $138,204 — will benefit the hospital’s Cancer Care Services. Proceeds from the Spring Brunch — $2,453 — will benefit the Women’s Center. The remaining money will go toward the Pediatric Alternatives in Creative Therapy program, and fund two $1,500 scholarships for a program designed to give high school students hands-on clinical experience.

The check was presented at a luncheon Dec. 1 to Advocate Condell Medical Center President Ann Errichetti, MD, MBA.

“We are so grateful to have such a committed group of volunteers,” Errichetti said. “This donation will truly benefit Cancer Care Services and other hospital programs. The Auxiliary helps make it possible to provide the best care possible to our patients.”

The Cancer Care Services donation will help to fund:

타 Nurse Navigator Program: Nurse navigators help patients access and understand their medical care and other services by following them through their course of treatment. They provide timely information, guidance and reassurance. These certified professionals assist patients by helping them understand insurance coverage and charity care, finding transportation to and from their appointments, providing support for patients’ emotional and mental well-being, and more.

타 Community Education and Outreach: Detecting cancer early offers the greatest possibility of successful treatment. With the help of philanthropy, the hospital’s experts visits schools, churches and community centers to educate the community about the importance of cancer screenings. They provide trips on healthy lifestyles and share important information about diagnostic and treatment options.

타 Spiritual and Social Services: Cancer patients often need services that go beyond the direct clinical care they receive. With donors’ gifts to the 2011 Golf Open, Advocate Condell will enhance its support groups and survivorship programs. One initiative, the “Look Good, Feel Better” program, co-sponsored with the American Cancer Society, teaches beauty techniques to help women with cancer manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.

The Auxiliary of Advocate Condell Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality of health in the community through programs that serve, educate and promote fundraising in a caring, supportive, nurturing environment. More than 260 dedicated men and women with varied interests and talents participate in projects, programs and social activities that benefit the hospital, according to Janet Miesbauer, manager of volunteers, auxiliary and retail services.

Condell Associates or members of the community can become an active member of the Auxiliary by donating regular service hours or by taking a paid membership. For more information, call (847) 990-5615.
