Power, corruption go hand in hand

Mr. Lowth seems to have no problem with the “authoritarian structure” of the Catholic Church (Fence Post, June 9). Perhaps he should ponder the words of Lord Acton, a British statesman, who observed: “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Recent news reports would seem to indicate that the current church is not immune from this corrupting tendency.
