Good news filters in for Lombard snow crews

LOMBARD, Illinois—Assistance in delivering babies usually falls under the Fire Department, sometimes even the Police Department. But the Public Works Department? In the midst of blizzard conditions, yes.

This morning, Public Works employees Dan Colpo and Bryan Bartels assisted in plowing the way for a woman in labor at Clover Creek Apartments in Lombard. Colpo and Bartels plowed the parking lot while a private plow contractor assisted and the complex maintenance crews cleared a path on the sidewalk to the door.

This enabled paramedics to walk up to the building to respond to the emergency call, with the ambulance responding a little later, once the street was accessible. The woman was then transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.

Another snow plow driver was also instrumental in assisting neighboring paramedics from Glen Ellyn, whose ambulance needed assistance in making its way to Good Samaritan Hospital. According to reports, Public Works employee Chris Bohnert is credited with helping save the patient's life by assisting in getting the ambulance to the hospital in time.

A third incident which occurred this morning had Public Works employees Cameo Drenth and Dan Simons plowing the way for emergency crews to reach a patient in north Lombard. Drenth and Simons arrived at the location prior to the Fire Department, plowed the way, allowing emergency crews to reach the patient.

“We are proud of our employees and the work they perform every day, especially in the face of emergencies,” said Village President William Mueller. “A storm of this nature inconveniences residents and all of our employees but our main objective is always to provide for the safety and welfare of our residents,” Mueller added. “These are just a few examples that occurred in our community,” he said.
