$200,000 bond for suspect in Elk Grove Village armed robbery

A Cook County judge set bail at $200,000 Monday for a Chicago man charged with robbing workers at an Elk Grove Village warehouse over the weekend.

Police charged Nathaniel J. Williams, 33, with a class X felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison, following the armed robbery at about 6 a.m. Saturday in a warehouse in the vicinity of Busse Road and Greenleaf Avenue, police said.

Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Walsh said Williams demanded money from a victim with whom he was acquainted and fired a weapon at the ceiling.

He then fled in a car, she said. The victim followed the car Williams was driving and called police, Walsh said, adding that Williams shot at the vehicle that was pursuing him.

The chase ended when police took Williams into custody at Lee Street and I-90, Walsh said. Williams’ criminal background includes a conviction for armed robbery from 1997 for which he was sentenced to seven years in prison, Walsh said.

He next is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 17.
